Tunas Minda FAQ
1. Why is our fee the cheapest? Is it because we provide a bad service and lousy teachers?
No, our teachers were interviewed and selected from a pool of entries, they have to produce a special teaching method that can capture their students’ understanding as they have only an hour per week for one subject. Our fee is the lowest because we have a conscientious effort to educate all children, regardless of their race and background.
2. Why do we bother so much that the children here take the extra skill classes?
Happy children are motivated to learn and discover themselves, MOTIVATION is the key secret to success. Motivation is the force within themselves that make them want to learn and discover knowledge, and to instill motivation in them, we have to show that learning is fun and learning makes them happy. In these extra skill classes, they will have fun and gain confidence, which in turn will make them feel good. You’ll see that you don’t have to force or drag them to classes anymore.
Furthermore, skill classes can teach them creativity. Our leaders have said that "The future of our nation depends on our ability to create-and to be creative. During the coming decades our most important national resources will be human resources. If our nation is to continue to meet the challenges of the future, we need to develop creative leaders in our children now."
3. Why does Tunasminda embrace the one to one method, not like some places that give seminar and talks to a crowd?
Kids learn at their own pace, some are slow, some are fast but one thing for sure, everyone needs that extra guidance. Everyone wants to feel special and the bit of attention motivates them. Our teachers are trained to give encouragements and care. We teach them to think out of the box, not only one answer is correct. We teach them to try, don’t be afraid of mistakes. An error is not a failure. Children can remember more from their own experiences of mistakes. Spoon feeding them with answers will only make them robots and can’t think on their own.
4. Isn’t it easier if we give them “leak” questions ? They don’t have to study that hard and they can get ‘A’s easily.
"Tell me and I will forget.
Show me and I will remember.
Involve me and I will understand." - Chinese Proverb-
Spoon feeding them with answers will only ruin them in the long run. They might appear clever with their good test and exam results. But actually, parents are destroying their self confidence and ignoring their desire to discover. Children need to discover and the process of discovery teaches them right from wrong, they will learn from their mistakes.
Mistakes are a clear sign that we are trying new things. It's always good to try new things because when we are trying new things we are growing. If we never try anything new, how can we improve? How can we expand? How can we innovate? If we're not making mistakes, we're not trying hard enough. So, don’t be afraid and go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper.
5. Why does Tunasminda keep the classes small ?
There are many advantages to have a small number of students in a class. Some students are overwhelmed by the big size of a class and abstain themselves from asking questions. A small class will make it easier for the students and the teachers to do a two way communications which is vital for the flow of wisdom. Here at Tunas@minda, the sky is not the limit. They learn school syllabus with us but their questions can go wild with just about anything. There is no question as a silly question. There is no student as a stupid student. Everybody is different, thus, they need different kinds of approach to make them understand. Only with a small number of students can the teachers give their attention.
6. Why does Tunasminda has holidays at the end of every month?
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” This proverb has a meaning that, without time off from work, a person becomes bored and boring. Families need time to be together, be it the students’ or the teachers’. The end of month break will enable families to plan for outstation trips or go back to their hometowns and have no worries of missing the child’s lessons. These holidays also serve as the time where the teachers can fill in their replacement classes.
